Start with the roof condition
Before specifying insulation, inspect the substrate, existing membranes or coatings, cracks, drainage details, parapets and signs of water ingress. Adding a new layer over a failed or poorly prepared surface can create future problems.
Thermal insulation and reflective coatings are not the same thing
Some roof solutions rely on an insulating layer that reduces heat transfer. Reflective or light-coloured roof coatings work differently by affecting solar absorption at the surface. These approaches can sometimes be part of the same project, but they should not be treated as interchangeable terms.

Cleaning, removal of unsound material and treatment of details may be necessary before the new system is applied. The preparation should match the manufacturer's requirements for the products selected.
What benefits should you expect?
The purpose of thermal roof insulation is to reduce heat transfer through the roof assembly. The actual effect on indoor comfort or energy use depends on the whole property, including existing insulation, glazing, ventilation, air-conditioning behaviour and building geometry. For that reason, responsible advice should avoid promising a universal temperature or percentage saving.
